Prairie Sisters Farmhouse Fabric Tour

Friday, March 22, 2019

Good morning friends!  Today it's my turn to share some fun projects I made for the
Prairie Sisters Farmhouse Fabric Tour!

Prairie Sisters is a new fabric line by Poppie Cotton and is available in stores now.

I love the soft colors, the variety of prints and the farmhouse feel of this line!
It was nice working with a softer palette than I'm used to.
I find that I'm craving the softer, calmer colors these days!

I decided to try out this pattern that I've had my eye on for quite some time!
It's called Tilted Spools by Cyndi Walker.  It can be found in Pretty Patchwork Quilts by Cyndi Walker or The Big Book of One-Block Quilts by The Patchwork Place.

I used a small assortment of low-volume fabrics for the background (to give it a scrappy feel) and chose one of my all-time favorite all over quilting designs - the classic orange peel.

This quilt measures 48 1/2" x 64 1/2" finished.

During the cutting process of Tilted Spools, I realized that I made a mistake and cut a bunch of 4 1/2" squares at the wrong size!  Do you ever do that?  Well, luckily I had enough fabric left over to cut the correct size squares.  So I set the 4 1/2" squares aside and decided I would just make another quilt out of those!

I made a simple patchwork quilt, slightly smaller, that coordinates with the first!  It measures
39 1/2" x 47 1/2" finished.  Cathy Barney quilted this one as well, except this time with loops and flowers.

I really love how both of the quilts turned out.  Prairie Sisters has a scrappy feel because of the florals, gingham, geometric prints, farm animals and a few pops of colors.  And I am a "scrappy girl" through and through so I am a big fan!  It was a joy to work with these new, unique fabrics.

These quilts are listed for sale in my Etsy Shop.
You can buy just one or both to coordinate with each other.

Mon Beau Jardin Project Tour

Tuesday, July 31, 2018

Welcome to the Mon Beau Jardin Project Tour!

Today, I am so excited to share a sweet baby quilt I made using fabrics from the new line, Mon Beau Jardin by Nadra Ridgeway for Riley Blake Designs/Penny Rose Fabrics.

These fabrics are beeeeeautiful!

I am absolutely obsessed with them and couldn't help but take
about a million pictures along the way!

The pattern I chose highlights the fabrics perfectly I think.
It's a simple, classic, and FREE baby quilt pattern by my friend, Andy Knowlton
of A Bright Corner.  Click HERE for the free pattern.

Whoops, how did this picture get in there?
Say "Hi" to my sweet little Molly.

This pattern is perfect for beginners and goes together really quickly.
It's the Stairway Baby Quilt and it's based on the classic Rail Fence pattern (which I've never made before).
I'm kind of in love with this simplified version, actually.
It really lets the fabrics sing!

There is a great assortment of prints and colors in this line!

I used Riley Blake's Le Creme Swiss Dot in Baby Pink for the background
and Mon Beau Jardin's main floral print in aqua for the back.

The quilting was done by my friend Cathy Barney in Alpine, UT.  I love the floral design we chose called, Ginger Flower.  I wanted something that wasn't directional and had some nice curves since there are so many straight edges in the quilt pattern.

I wanted to incorporate all of the fabrics from the line so my version is much scrappier than the original pattern.  The only fabrics I did not end up using were the sweet little stripes.  Not because I don't like them, but just because I thought they were too light.  I thought they would blend in too much with the background fabric.

I ended up not getting enough of the backing fabric so I used a little bit of a different blue floral from Mon Beau Jardin to piece the back.  I don't mind.  It gives a little "make-do" feel to the quilt (which I love).  Do you ever piece your quilt backs?  How do you feel about that?

This is my new favorite quilt. It finishes at 48" x 48" so I'll probably give it away as a baby gift someday.  I might be a little sad to see it go but I think whoever I give it to will love it.  I may have to make a bigger version sometime to keep for myself!

Mon Beau Jardin is available in stores now!
