Clearing My Plate

You may remember the wee version of this that I made a while back [???]

At that time I decided to make the little one for my sweet new nephew, Van,  and a throw size one for our family [instead of making one really big one.]  Well yesterday I finished piecing together the last of these zig zags.

I debated about the brown.  But, I needed one more row.  So this is what I came up with.  I told my husband this will probably be a very controversial quilt [among all of you color experts out there...]

What do you think?  Do I dare ask?  :)

  2. I love it! The brown is calming and works really well with the rest of the colors. Such a pretty quilt.

  3. Works for me ! If it were a circle, the brown would be next to the red, and that's totally right !

I love how the different prints makes the quilt sparkle more than a totally one-fabric row would.

  9. I personally love brown, but if you wanted to go lighter/brighter you could add a bright pink at the top?!

  15. It is beautiful! The brown works but I think I would have gone to a brighter purple. The top of the quilt is very bright and it gets quite a bit darker at the bottom. But saying that I do still like it very much. You have great patience to do all those hst's!

  16. I like the brown. I think the brown is a strong color and it sort of compliments the red at the top of the quilt.

  17. I love it! I've been wanting to make one of these for quite a while. I think the brown works great. And remember, it's your quilt - who cares if somebody else doesn't like the brown?

  20. What a great quilt! What size did you make your half square triangles? I'm having a hard time using my scraps. Every time I use them in a project, I think now this HAS to put a big dent in my scraps, but it's like they're multiplying! Maybe if I make one of these, it'll help. Thanks for sharing.

  22. I really like the way in which you have combined solids with patterns. The brown is good, it gives the spectrum closure!

    Gorgeous!

  29. That's a big quilt and I love everything about it including the brown row. Don't know what you could have used that would look better.

  30. What a rainbow quilt, it is beautiful. any idea how many fabrics you used?

  31. Betty Lou,

OK. You made me curious so I just counted and I've got 114 different fabrics!

    10 red
    10 oranges
    14 yellows
    20 limes
    11 dark greens
    15 aquas
    12 dark blues
    10 purples
    8 browns

I traded a lot of 5" squares with my sister-in-law and a friend, and also used what I had so I didn't have to buy TOO much fabric for this quilt!

Thanks for asking and have a great day!
    Amber

  33. I agree with everyone else - luv it! What's not to love about it!

  34. I love it! The brown is perfect. I am not a color expert, but I like the dark of the red at the top and the dark in the brown at the bottom. To me it opens at the top and closes at the bottom with those to colors. Looks great.
