Red, White, and Blue Scrapology Quilt

Monday, June 22, 2026

Around Memorial Day of this year, I decided to make a red, white, and blue version of my Scrapology pattern!  It was such a fun, scrappy project that I thoroughly enjoyed making!  It was a great way to kick off summer, all the patriotic holidays, and America's 250th birthday!

Let me tell you the backstory about this pattern.  It was originally in my book, Quilt the Rainbow,
which came out in 2022.  (It was the pink quilt.)

Unfortunately, my publishing company (Martingale Publishing) went out of business about a year later, so I didn't really have a place to send people who wanted the book.  It was such a bummer because I had a very short window to share about the quilts and patterns!  You can still find the book online in a couple of places but I am not associated with those sellers and, sadly, getting nothing from those sales.  So, I am slowly publishing the patterns from the book as stand-alone patterns.  The good news is that I get to add more size options to the stand-alone patterns, which I am really happy about!

This is the throw size but the pattern now includes twin, queen, and king size options!
It's scrap and fat-quarter friendly now, too!  I love that it's so versatile!

I had everything in my stash to make this quilt except the back.

I ended up buying this sweet cream and light blue plaid fabric for the back.  It's from the fabric line, Tails and Threads for Art Gallery Fabrics.  The label is from Ever Emblem.  I get the 2" cotton, fold-over, sew-in labels.  If you go to their site, you'll have to pick a cotton label and customize it from there.  I've loved the ease of these labels.  Now I don't have an excuse to not label my quilts!

My longarm quilter, Jen Ostler, used the Abacus Squared panto.  She did a great job making the design line up perfectly throughout the X blocks. I just love her, she is the best!

When Quilt the Rainbow came out, my friend, Christopher (the Tattooed Quilter), made Scrapology in Christmas fabrics, which you can see HERE.  Ever since then, I knew I wanted to make it in multiple colors!  In May, I just knew they had to be red, white, and blue!  So thank you, Christopher for the inspiration!  I think this pattern would be cute in any colorway, though!  Can you just imagine it in lots of different colors?  I think that would be so fun...and such a great scrap buster!

And guess what, friends, if you make this quilt, you are going to have some cut-offs - so you can make a bonus project!  I decided to make a decorative pillow for my front porch!  But you could make a little wall hanging, a bag, a quilty-vest, whatever your heart desires!

Scrapology is beginner-friendly and a fun make.

Sew Delightful

Saturday, March 21, 2026

Hi friends!  Today I have a new/old pattern I want to share with you!
It's the red pattern from my book, Quilt the Rainbow.  That book is out of print now
so I am trying to release all of the patterns from it as stand-alone patterns.

(It was such a bummer that Martingale Publishing went out of business
right after they published Quilt the Rainbow due to ramifications from the Covid-19 Pandemic.)
I didn't get a chance to talk about the patterns in the book very much because
I didn't have anywhere to send people to get the patterns!

So I am very happy to share this with you today!

The pattern is called Sew Delightful, and the good news is -
I have added 2 more size options to the instructions!
So now you can make a baby, throw, or queen-size quilt!

[This photograph was courtesy of Martingale Publishing)

Sew Delightful is a fat quarter-friendly pattern and would be cute in any colorway!
It's a great way to showcase those favorite fat quarters you've been collecting!

I've made the baby version before in blues and greens.  You can check that out HERE.

The blocks are big, finishing at about 20" square.
And I'd say the skill level is perfect for a confident beginner.

I love a large-scale print on the back of a quilt + a striped binding!
As you can see, I've been using labels from Ever Emblem for a few years
and really am a big fan!  I get the 2" cotton, fold-over, sew-in labels.
If you go to their site, you'll have to pick a cotton label
and customize it from there.  I've loved the ease of these labels.
Now I don't have an excuse to not label my quilts!

I'm so happy to have this pattern out in the world again.
It's a fun one; I love the big-block energy!

I know so many of you missed this pattern the first go-around.
So tell me, do you like big blocks?  This one is really versatile and cute
for anyone, in any colorway!

If you'd like to grab this pattern, you can get the
paper pattern HERE or the
PDF pattern HERE.

I'd love to hear what you think of Sew Delightful!
Thanks for stopping by!

Oh What Fun Fabric Tour

Monday, June 19, 2023

The day is finally here that I get to share the project I made with the
darling fabric line, Oh What Fun by Elea Lutz for Poppie Cotton.

I first saw this line at the 2023 International Fall Quilt Market.
I was immediately smitten with Elea's signature
vintage style, the unique color palette, and the
fun details of this fabric line.

Oh What Fun features Santas, snowflakes and text, polka dots,
plaid, stockings, Christmas trees, snowmen, flowers and holly, and my personal
favorite...ice skating reindeer.  It's just so whimsical and sweet.
I thoroughly enjoyed working with this line.

I chose to make a quilt using the Patchwork Plaid pattern from my book,
Quilt the Rainbow.  I wanted to see it in another colorway
besides blue and white.  I think Christmas fabrics were the
perfect match for that pattern.

I paired the Oh What Fun fabrics with a dark blue chambray
fabric that I had in my stash and a white with red polka dot fabric by
Lori Holt for Riley Blake.

Jen Ostler in Highland, Utah quilted it for me
with a fun loop and snowflake design.  It's called
Snowflake Meander.  Jen always hides an extra little
shape in the quilting for its recipient to find.
This time it was a tiny star - so cute!

There are 3 different Plus blocks in Patchwork Plaid.
It finishes at 70-1/2" x 90-1/2" and would be cute in any colorway!

I backed it in a navy blue plaid fabric and bound it with
the red Good Measure grid fabric from my fabric line,
Treasured Treads with Poppie Cotton.

Oh What Fun is now in stores.
Grab a fat-quarter bundle and my book, Quilt the Rainbow
so you can make this quilt too.

Congratulations to Elea for another fabulous
fabric line!  I just love everything she creates
and am so happy I got to be a part of this tour!

Blossoms and Buds - Emily Belle Version

Sunday, March 5, 2023

 Good morning!
I've been wanting to share this quilt with you
for a while now; I finished it back in
September of 2022, I think.

I love this quilt because
A. It's a classic design
B. It's scrappy
C. It uses lots of my favorite fabrics from my stash
and
D. The Baptist Fan quilting gives it a very vintage vibe.

This is the original version:

It's the Blossoms and Buds
pattern from my book,

It's amazing how different this
version looks compared to the orange version!

In the orange version
the background is scrappy and
in this version the background is all
one fabric.  They look so different!
Which one do you prefer
(and disregard the orange if that's not your thing)?

I've seen several different versions online
and they're all awesome.  There are
so many ways to make this pattern your own
depending on your colors and fabric placement.

The only fabric I bought specifically
for this project was the background fabric -
Emily Belle Liberty from Riley Blake
in the color, Magnolia (a soft, buttery yellow).
Emily Belle comes in about 45
different colors so you could
pick the one that speaks to you!

And it's such a great stash buster!
Even the binding is scrappy!

Quilt the Rainbow gives instructions
on how to make a scrappy binding
or scrappy quilt back!
There are lots of useful nuggets of
information in it, besides the 10
versatile quilt patterns.
You can grab the book HERE.

I had this wild backing fabric in my stash
just waiting for the perfect project!
It's called Cameo by Kaffe Fassett.
It incorporated so many of the colors I used
for the quilt front so I thought
it would give this simple quilt just
the "wow factor" it needed.

I like to label my quilts with labels from Everemblem.
I get the 2" cotton, fold-over, sew-in labels.
If you go to their site, you'll have to pick a cotton label
and customize it from there.  They're so convenient.
Now I don't have an excuse to not label my quilts!

Jen Ostler of Dry Creek Quilting
in Highland, UT quilted it with this
classic Baptist Fan pattern.  There are many different
Baptist Fan pantographs out there but I love this particular
one because it's so traditional.  It's the
pantograph and I've used it many times!

Before I let you go, I just want to remind you
about the 2023 Quilt the Rainbow Challenge.

Wednesday, December 28, 2022

Hello!
Today I have a fun announcement to make!
In 2023 I will be hosting a
Quilt the Rainbow Challenge on Instagram!

I hope this will be a win-win situation for both of us!
I'm dying to see your versions of the patterns from my book, Quilt the Rainbow

and make some cute quilts!

Here's how the challenge will work:

First, you will need my book, Quilt the Rainbow.

Most of the patterns are easily customizable.  I can't wait to see your version!

You can make them in just one color of the rainbow
or in multiple colors (like the cover quilt)!

After you make a quilt top, post a picture of it on Instagram

and will announce the winner on Instagram the following day.

during each quarter of 2023, using one of the patterns from Quilt the Rainbow
with the hashtag #quilttherainbowchallenge is an entry.**

as long as it is a pattern from Quilt the Rainbow.
* You can repost projects in each subsequent quarter
as long as they weren't chosen as a winner in a previous quarter.
* You can enter as many times as you'd like each quarter
but each entry has to be a different project.

Seaside Quilt

Friday, December 23, 2022

 It's Friday, December 23rd, 2022.
Two days until Christmas.
This month I've hosted two family parties,
bought, wrapped, and delivered all the neighbor/friend gifts,
purchased and wrapped a good portion of our family's gifts,
ate my weight in toffee, made two batches of cinnamon rolls,
made two batches of caramels (both of which ended up in the trash, sadly),
had a girls' night out/favorite things exchange with my besties,
did two puzzles, and lots, lots more!  It's been a great month overall.

Today, I have been taking it easy even though
I should be out getting a few last-minute gifts
(my husband is on it though, thank goodness!)
I'm "done" and craving some rest.
Writing a little blog post isn't too hard...
So today I want to share with you my finished Seaside quilt!

I made this during the Seaside Quilt-Along I hosted
in September and October.

The pattern is from my book, Quilt the Rainbow.
Here's the original version:

Seaside is a great stash buster.  I used up tons of aquas for the background
so all I needed to buy was the solid teal fabric for the accent color.
While I was making the aqua version I also envisioned it
with low-volume fabrics for the background.  I was really excited
to see it come to life during the quilt-along, starting with this fabric pull:

I really love the soft, muted tones of these fabrics!

The quilting was a new-to-me design called Swivel Circles.
I really like it with these earthy fabrics.  Someone even said it reminded
them of seashells which is perfect for the name of the quilt!
Jen Ostler quilted it for me and did a fantastic job, as always!

I bound it with this copper print from Fig Tree's Cinnamon and Cream line
and backed it with Intrinsic Soft from Shine On by Sharon Holland for Art Gallery Fabrics.
I absolutely love that dark green floral fabric!  So pretty!

My labels are from Everemblem.
I get the 2" cotton, fold-over, sew-in labels.
If you go to their site, you'll have to pick a cotton label
and customize it from there.  I've loved the ease of these labels.
Now I don't have an excuse to not label my quilts!

This is a great project for beginning quilters!

Seaside is such a quick, easy make.
I really see myself making more of these in the future.
I'd love to have one in all the colors!

If you'd like to purchase a copy of Quilt the Rainbow
you can snag an autographed copy from my Etsy shop.
It includes 10 patterns to help you whittle down each
color of your fabric stash + lots more!
Check out THIS post for all the details!

So which version do you like better?
Can you see yourself making Seaside and if so,
what colors would you make it in?

Thank you for stopping by today and happy holidays to you!
