Gingham Farmhouse Fabric Tour + Tutorial and Giveaway!

Thursday, November 14, 2019

I've been waiting for this day for weeks now!
It's my stop on the Gingham Farmhouse Fabric Tour and guys, I absolutely LOVE
this fabric line by Poppie Cotton!

It's full of florals, orange peels, houses (not shown here), gingham and gingham BUNNIES!!!  I mean, can you even!?!  All things I love in soft, beautiful colors!  But I especially love the navy!

Gingham Farmhouse also includes the sweetest alphabet panel that you ever did see.
It's available in 3 different colorways!

I couldn't resist making a little something from the panel and a "HOME" pillow seemed to be the perfect thing.  Click HERE for the tutorial!

I also made a quilt!

The pattern is called Sugar from my book, Vintage Vibe.
(Click HERE to get an autographed copy.
It's on sale right now for $14.99 for 14 project patterns!)

Sugar calls for 8 fat quarters for the blocks but I used 18 and made it really scrappy!

It finishes at 64" x 80".

I had my quilter, Cathy Barney in Alpine, Utah do an orange peel edge-to-edge design on it.
It's one I hadn't used before and I love the way it turned out!

Look at that texture!

I finished this quilt off with a scrappy binding.
I think it adds a fun touch and is a great way to use up fabric from the line.
Do you ever do scrappy bindings?  They're my fave!

I want to share the love of Poppie Cotton with you
so today I am giving away 2 darling Gingham Farmhouse
panels with coordinating house print fat quarters!
You can make a pillow (like mine!) using THIS tutorial
or you can incorporate these letters and numbers into a quilt.
There are so many possibilities!

Two lucky winners will be chosen.
Just leave a comment below telling me what you love about your home.
I will announce the winners next Wednesday, November 20th here on the blog.

Thank you for stopping by today!

Skipper Quilt Along: Week 2

Monday, March 11, 2019

Happy Monday friends!  Welcome to week 2 of the Skipper Quilt Along!
I hope you all had fun picking out and cutting your fabrics last week.

Here's the plan for this week:

Baby: make 4 blocks.
Throw: make 8 blocks.
Twin: make 16 blocks.
Queen: make 24 blocks.

I've broken down the number of blocks you need to make each week
into an amount divisible by 4 - since each strip set makes 4 blocks.

They're pretty quick and fun to make!

You'll find as you're making these blocks that you have some fun triangles left over.  So I've got an idea!  Instead of just discarding the leftover triangles, why not use them to make some other blocks!?!  The easiest way to do this is after you sew your squares onto your strip segments (and before you trim them) sew one more seam 1/2" away from the first as shown below.  The first seam (for the Skipper blocks) is the seam that goes from corner to corner.  The second seam (for the other blocks) is the shorter seam that is closer to the outer corner of the block.

Then cut between the two seams leaving about a 1/4" seam allowance on each block.

Press the Skipper block as directed in the pattern and press the other
block (Half Square Triangle or HST) seams towards the bigger triangle.

Repeat on both ends of all the blocks and then trim the HST's to 3 3/4" each.

Sew together 4 HST's to make 1 Pinwheel block.
You'll get 2 Pinwheel blocks from each set of 4 Skipper Blocks.
The pinwheels will be going in opposite directions but they would be cute to mix together in a quilt or to break up into a couple of table runners!

Of course, if you don't want to deal with a second project, disregard these instructions and just move forward using the Skipper instructions!

Have fun making these blocks and be sure to post a picture of your first set on Instagram using the hashtag #skipperqal.  I can't wait to see your blocks!!!

Happy quilting!

Tilda Sunkiss Dresden Plate Quilt

Thursday, August 9, 2018

Good morning.  I finally did something that I've been meaning to do for a while now -
I took some pictures of my finished Sunkiss Dresden Plate quilt!
I've got so many fun pictures to share with you...I hope you don't mind :).

When Devonstone Square reached out to me to let me know that they are a brand new wholesaler in the USA, carrying Tilda Fabrics by Tone Finnanger (from Norway) and asked if I wanted to collaborate - of course, I said "Yes!!!"  I've been a big fan of Tilda Fabrics for a while now and was excited to get my hands on these beautiful, unique fabrics!

I wanted to use a pattern that really did these fabrics justice so I chose one of my all-time favorite quilt blocks - the Dresden Plate.  I used the Pretty Petals pattern from my book, Vintage Vibe for the Dresden Plate blocks but omitted the alternate patchwork blocks.

I enjoy making these blocks now...but you need to read the story in my book about how I USED to feel about Dresden Plate quilts.  I used to swear that I would never make a Dresden Plate quilt.  Are any of you currently in that same boat?

Dresden Plates are really not that hard to make and my book walks you through every step of the process.  My book is actually out of print now and I only have a few autographed copies left so click HERE if you're interested in picking up one for yourself.

I do enjoy applique...I just don't do it very often anymore.

You get to spend some good quality time with your fabrics.

And as I always say, "A little progress each day adds up to BIG results!"

Do you like applique?  I think most people either love it or hate it.

My quilt finished at 53" x 53".

It was custom quilted by Kaylene Parry in Lehi, UT.

I love the crosshatching she did in the centers.  Actually, I love everything she did!

I used a light pink solid for the back so the quilting would show up really nicely.
The color is "New Color Petal DV121" from Devonstone Square.

And I decided to do a scrappy binding because I thought it would be a fun touch around the white background and borders.

I had so much fun making this quilt and hope you enjoyed seeing some of the process.

Have a great day friends!
Thanks for stopping by!

Finished Skipper Quilt - Scrappy Version

Thursday, November 5, 2015

Hey there!
I hope everyone had a nice Halloween.
Besides this little mama catching a 24-hour flu bug the day before,
we had a nice one.  Tis' the season right?

We're in full fledged "Fall" mode over here.
I really do love everything that comes along with fall and winter around here but I think I'm getting old because I'm starting to dread the fact that I'll probably have an internal temperature of FREEZING for exactly four to six months!  But there's nothing like a scrappy, happy quilt to chase the blues away, am I right?!?

I finished this scrappy Skipper quilt months ago but never got a chance to share it here.  If you love low volumes + bright happy fabrics you might enjoy this one.

The pattern is from my book, Vintage Vibe: Traditional Quilts, Fresh Fabrics
(which you can purchase HERE).

I used some of my favorite sweet, vintagy fabrics from my stash and backed it in this little apple print by my friend Pam Vieira-McGinnis for the line Pam Kitty Garden by LakeHouse Fabrics.

It's very, very scrappy (like even each side of the border is a different fabric). And polka dots are always a good idea for a binding, don't you think?

The beautiful machine quilting design is one of my new go-to favorites.  I have used it on at least 3-4 quilts so far.  It's called Interlocking Orange Peel from karleeporter.com.  Cathy Barney did it and did a fabulous job!

This is such a fun, fast quilt to make whether it's for a boy, girl, super scrappy or not.
(You can see the original boy version HERE.)
Finished quilt size = 55.5" x 61.5"

I hope that inspired all of you to make some thing scrap happy today!
Have a great day!
