This next project I want to share with you is such a great scrapbuster!

I saw a quilt like it at my friend's mother's house and knew it would be such a fun project 

so I just had to make one too!

Here's a brief description of how to make this beginner-friendly quilt:

1. Gather a bunch of 4-1/2" wide scraps (they can be any length you want). 

I cut mine anywhere from 1-1/2" to about 5-6" in length.

2. Sew them into one long strip.  Press the seam allowances open.  

3. Cut that strip into 4-1/2" segments.   

Some of the fabrics will be wide and some will be narrow strips.  

You're not supposed to worry if they're really narrow - that's what

makes this pattern charming.  (I would adjust my ruler to avoid

having a piece that was smaller than 3/4" though).

4. Lay out the blocks, rotating every other one so the strips alternate directions.  

5. Sew the segments into rows.  Press the seams in one direction, 

alternating the direction with each row.  

6. Sew the rows together and press all the seams in one direction.

You can make this quilt any size you want.

I made mine pretty big to use up a bunch of fabrics from my stash.

I did an 18 x 21 layout (378 segments) so my quilt

finished at 72" x 84".  That means I needed a 4-1/2" wide 

strip of scraps about 48 YARDS long!!!

I had my friend, Jen Ostler in Highland, Utah quilt it for me

with a new-to-me panto called Spring.  It's made up of

circle and petal shapes.  Do you see the little bee Jen added in, just for fun?!?

She always hides a little object in the quilting for a fun game

of hide-and-seek.

I had the white and purple polka-dot fabric in my stash 

(but didn't have quite enough so I added in a strip of the mint green fabric

to make my back long enough).  Then I bound the quilt in the aqua floral fabric

from my fabric line, Treasured Threads by Poppie Cotton.  The specific name 

for that fabric is Double Crochet in the color Teal.

This project was really easy and really fun!

I highly suggest doing it if you have a lot of scraps!

Jessica Dayon's Precut Parade Book Tour

 Hi friends!

Today I am sharing a project I made

from my friend, Jessica Dayon's new book,

Precut Parade.

Jessica's book includes 9 precut-friendly quilt patterns;

3 for Jelly Rolls, 3 for Layer Cakes, and 3 for Fat Quarters!

All of the patterns in the book are beautiful, traditional designs.

I chose to do this fat quarter-friendly pattern called Sparker!

If you know me at all, you know that I love red, white, and blue quilts

 They're classic, striking, and never go out of style!

So Jessica's Sparkler quilt really spoke to me. 

I wanted to try something completely different though

so I tried a more colorful version using an assortment of 

colors and fabric lines from my stash.

There are two blocks in this quilt so it was really fun to make!

I used the border fabric

(which is from the fabric line, Summers End by

Alison Janssen for FIGO) as the jumping-off point

for my color palette.  I am a big fan of

Alison Janssen and I love the colors in that print -

oranges, pinks, lavenders, golds, and browns.

Perfect for this time of year!

For the back, I used Solar in Lavender 

from Ruby Star Society's Warp and Weft Heirloom collection 

by Alexia Abegg.  For the binding, I used Stitch in Saddle 

from the same line.  They're both wovens so they're very soft!

I had my awesome quilter, Jen Ostler in Highlalnd, UT

quilt it for me using the Interlocking Orange Peel design by Karlee Porter.

I always add one of the simple quilt labels

that I get from Ever Emblem on Etsy.  You can choose any of their labels

and customize them to your liking.  I get the 2" cotton fold-over, sew-in labels.

It's a big quilt; it finishes at 75-1/2" x 88-1/2".

This was such a fun project!  Jessica always writes

fantastic patterns and there are lots of other

quilts in the book that I would love to make!

I've listed 30 (that's right 30!!!) quilts for sale on my Instagram destash page @gigisthimble_destash and in my Etsy shop.  There are so many listed that I have hoarded for years, unable to part with.  But guys, it is time to say goodbye to them.  I just don't have the space to keep them forever.  It's hard to say goodbye to some of them but I get excited at the possibility of making more!

Prairie Sisters Farmhouse Fabric Tour

Good morning friends!  Today it's my turn to share some fun projects I made for the 

Prairie Sisters Farmhouse Fabric Tour!

Prairie Sisters is a new fabric line by Poppie Cotton and is available in stores now.

I love the soft colors, the variety of prints and the farmhouse feel of this line!

It was nice working with a softer palette than I'm used to.  

I find that I'm craving the softer, calmer colors these days!

I decided to try out this pattern that I've had my eye on for quite some time!

It's called Tilted Spools by Cyndi Walker.  It can be found in Pretty Patchwork Quilts by Cyndi Walker or The Big Book of One-Block Quilts by The Patchwork Place.

I used a small assortment of low-volume fabrics for the background (to give it a scrappy feel) and chose one of my all-time favorite all over quilting designs - the classic orange peel.

This quilt measures 48 1/2" x 64 1/2" finished.

During the cutting process of Tilted Spools, I realized that I made a mistake and cut a bunch of 4 1/2" squares at the wrong size!  Do you ever do that?  Well, luckily I had enough fabric left over to cut the correct size squares.  So I set the 4 1/2" squares aside and decided I would just make another quilt out of those!

I made a simple patchwork quilt, slightly smaller, that coordinates with the first!  It measures 

39 1/2" x 47 1/2" finished.  Cathy Barney quilted this one as well, except this time with loops and flowers.

I really love how both of the quilts turned out.  Prairie Sisters has a scrappy feel because of the florals, gingham, geometric prints, farm animals and a few pops of colors.  And I am a "scrappy girl" through and through so I am a big fan!  It was a joy to work with these new, unique fabrics.
