New Patterns - Snow Village and With Love

Hello there!  If you've been following along with me on Instagram you know that I've designed a couple of new patterns recently!  I'd love to share those with you today!  First up is Snow Village.

Snow Village is a pattern made up of two simple blocks - a snowflake block and a house block.  I've never made a snowflake quilt so this was a fun one for me!  These are simple snowflakes and each one is made up of a different fabric.

I designed this to be a "winter" quilt that could last beyond December 25th.  Normally here in Utah, we would've had lots of snow at the time I took this photo, but this year was weird!  We just barely got our first real snowfall!

This is a fairly quick make, finishing at 66" x 66".

I was so excited about this gingham fabric by Lella Boutique for Moda.  I thought it was super cozy and wintery so I bought enough for the houses and the back.  But I just can't wait to start seeing different colorways of this pattern pop up!  How cute would this pattern be with a black background and white snowflakes?!?  Do I need to make another one?  Hmmm....maybe so!

The second quilt I want to share with you today is called, With Love.

This is such a fun quilt to make!  Again, it incorporates just two simple blocks.

The hearts are made from 10" squares (I used a bunch of reds from different Sweetwater for Moda collections).  I also used my favorite background fabric, Firefly Whisper from the line Hello, Bear by Art Gallery Fabrics.  I had everything for this quilt in my stash.  Didn't have to buy a thing!  I bet you have lots of fabrics in your stash that would be fun too!  Or maybe not.  Maybe a trip to the fabric store is in order!  Wink, wink. :)

This quilt is also a pretty quick make.  It finishes at 55" x 55", so there's still time to whip this up before Valentine's Day!  But hearts are good all year long, right?  This could be fun as a wedding gift, for an anniversary or for someone that just needs a little extra love in their life.

Both of these quilts were quilted by my friend, Kaylene Parry.  I have used her a lot over the years and she is a fabulous quilter!  I so appreciate her squeezing these into her busy schedule during the busy holiday season!

If you're interested in the PDF or paper versions of either of these patterns, you can stop by my shop today!  Just click HERE.

I'd love to hear what you think about my new patterns!  Leave a comment below and I'll pick a name to win a copy of each one!  We'll keep this giveaway short and sweet so the winner can receive their copies asap - while there is a chance of snow on the ground and love is in the air!  I'll announce a winner Monday.  Open to anyone, anywhere!

Favorite Quilting Notions of 2017 [friday favorites]

Happy Friday friends!  I hope you all had a happy holiday season!  I know I did.  I'm still trying to put my house back together since the Christmas decor came down but it's just about there and I'm feeling excited and hopeful about this new year.

I've been wanting to share some of my favorite notions as of late, so this Friday Favorites is straight from the heart!  I absolutely LOVE these products and I think you will too!

Before we get started, I have to let you know that I am not normally a big "gadgets and gizmos" kind-of-girl.  But all of these items completely knocked my socks off after the first use.  I've been using all of them for a while now and can testify to their effectiveness.  And, they're super cute!  What more could a guy/girl want?

First up are String Blades by Quilt Story.

They're handy little thread cutters that you can stick anywhere!  I stuck one on my sewing machine and have been using it like crazy the last few days as I've been doing a lot of chain piecing.

Here's a little clip of mine in action!

They're sold individually for $4.99 each or in packs of 3 for $9.99.  Click HERE to purchase.

Next up is the Binding Baby.

It’s a cute way to store your bindings, trims, ribbons, and ricrac.
There are standard colors or you can order a customized one!  This one was customized just for me (I love the brown hair and top knot!)  They come in 3 sizes - mini, medium and large.  Mine is the medium.

They're not only cute but they're super handy too!  You can store your binding on them while your quilt is being quilted and when you're ready to bind your quilt, just stick your Binding Baby on the extra spool holder on your machine and begin sewing the binding to one side of your quilt.  The binding will let down at whatever speed you sew your binding on and won't be a tangled mess in your lap or on the floor.  I won't bind a quilt anymore unless it's first been wound on my binding baby.  It makes it so much easier!

Binding Babies range in price from $12.95 for the mini to $23.95 for the large customized one.   Click HERE to purchase.

Third up is the best pair of small scissors I have ever used (and I have owned many pairs in my day!)

Not only are they gorgeous, they are lightweight (but sturdy) and super sharp.  Do you see that point? Be careful!

Warm Crochet scissors come in 4 colors (I believe mine are the red bronze) and are on sale for $13.95.  Click HERE to purchase.

Last up are these darling pins.  The maker, Susan (@quiltypie) only sells them through her Instagram account so follow her if you want sale notifications.

Susan creates all sorts of different pin shapes including peas and carrots, macaroons, cupcakes, and hearts (just to name a few)!  I couldn't help but fall in love with her itty-bitty, mouth-watering, sweet treat straight pins because (I will admit) I do have quite a bit of a sweet tooth.  Donuts are my weakness.

The thing that blew me away with these pins is not only the fine workmanship, but how sharp and skinny the pin itself was!  I know that might sound crazy that I would care about something like that when these are just so darn cute...but it was like a double-win when I realized what great quality they were too.

Well, those are my favorite quilty notions from 2017.  Aren't they great?  All of them would make great gifts for quilty friends or family members, great stocking-stuffers or a fun, unexpected surprise in a quilty exchange.  I think I may need to stock up on some of these because you never know when you'll need a little gift.

Do you own any of these items?  If so, do you love them as much as I do?  Or are there any of these items that are just calling your name?  Leave a comment below, I'd love to know.

Have a great weekend friends!
