I've always wanted a red and white quilt. So in January 2012 (when the fabric store I work at decided to start a Farmer's Wife Club), I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and get my quilt while jumping on the Farmer's Wife bandwagon!
In our Farmer's Wife
club, I got to teach different quilt making techniques once a month to a small group
of women (who seriously amazed me - most of them ended up making all 111
blocks!) I already knew how to paper-piece (a technique I used on some
of the more intricate blocks) but the technique that was new to me at
the time (and has become an easy, enjoyable method) was the template
piecing. I also learned new methods for making half-square triangles
plus lots of other tips and tricks. Overall, I definitely grew as a
quilter and I'm so glad that I was able to be a part of the club.
I started off thinking I would make all 111 six-inch blocks. But then reality set in and my plans changed. I thought, I don't need a king-size quilt
and to be honest I was getting a little tired of my red and white
fabrics so I opted out at 83 beautiful little blocks to make myself a twin-size quilt. I feel good about my decision and have had a blast farming!
Since my last post, I needed to make 5 more blocks to reach my twin-size goal. Here they are:
L. to R.: [28] Duck and Ducklings [32] Farmer's Daughter, [51] Hovering Birds, [23] Country Farm and [27] Darting Birds
This little stack contains lots of red and white fabrics plus hours and hours and hours of love :)
Did I mention that I was getting a little tired of my red and white stash? Well, that's where you come in! I thought I'd share the red and white LOVE by doing a giveaway for some of my leftovers (what you see above) and maybe a pattern or two :) Interested? Just leave me a comment telling me what your favorite color combination is right now. This giveaway will close Sunday night and I'll announce a winner Monday morning.
Have a wonderful weekend!
[We're off to Park City, Utah for some family time!]
See ya on the flip side!

Ooh what a hard question....working on a project in smoky purple and grey!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color combo right now is blue and green. I always feel calmer when working with those colors. Thanks for the fun giveaway!
ReplyDeleteYou did it! Congratulations, I can't wait to see it put together. I'm making a little commissioned quilt right now in blue, green, and gray. I'm really loving that color combo!
ReplyDeleteMine is still a light tuquoise and sunny yellow. I know it isn't exactly trendy anymore...but those colors just make me so happy!
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt squares! I want to take a quilting class! I wonder if there's a store somewhere around here?
I have been holding off on attempting the Farmer's Wife quilt but seeing yours has made me decide to give it a go. My favorite color combination at this moment is yellow and grey. I would love to win the scraps as I'm collecting reds and greens for a Country Charmer. Thanks for the chance and have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI am actually wanting to make a valentine quilt, so those reds would be great! I am enjoying fall colors
ReplyDeleteWell I have to say that I love the cool colors right now and navy and lavender are at the top of the list but yellow thrown in there with those two is pretty interesting but I think that is breaking the rules right :) Anyway, thank you for the giveaway and who can say no to some scrappy red business! Have a fun weekend!
ReplyDeleteI am so into aqua and white right now! Aqua and red would be delightful!
ReplyDeleteI think for the moment, my favorite color combination is orange, lime, and magenta. Can't get enough of those luscious colors!

I would like to make a black and white quilt one day. I haven't quilted before, but one day. Currently I am working with brown. Love it for the fall.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, well my favorite color has always been red, and I hope to make a red and white quilt some day too. Your farmers wife quilt will be so gorgeous! I am not quite experienced enough for blocks that complex yet. I am working on a grey and cream quilt for my daughter right now.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm making a quilt in shades of blue and cream which I love. However red is one of the colors I seldom use for some reason but would definitely like to.
ReplyDeleteI just got some navy & shirtings so guess that would be my favorite combo right now, but sure would love to win your reds & whites! I would use them to make some of the Farmer's Wife blocks. Yours are just gorgeous! Thanks for sharing your extra fabric!
ReplyDeleteEven my closet will tell you: I am a classic red & white girl. With a dash of black, grey, or dark taupe for necessary skirts & pants. Turquoise & silver for jewelry. Very predictable or endless combinations.
ReplyDeleteFor little girlies: aqua and red.
For little boys: yellow and sky blue.

Almost ever thing I make has some red in it. Would love to win. I like aqua and think a pale yellow would look good with it.
ReplyDeleteWow! They are beautiful...can't wait to see the finished quilt. I am liking the solid quilts - quilts made with all solids... bright colors though.
ReplyDeleteRight now it's orange green purple & black, simply because I'm working on a Halloween quilt. And those colors really pop together
ReplyDeletePink and purple right now, but there isn't a wrong answer :)

ReplyDeleteRed is a favorite color of mine! Your blocks look great. I hope you really enjoy your farmer's wife quilt. Thanks for the chance to win some red and white!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving pink and gray right now. I bought some fabrics to make a blanket in that combo awhile ago (when I thought my 4th baby was going to be a girl, but then the 20 week ultrasound showed something different) and I'm finally working on it. It's so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm still stuck on aqua... But maybe with some brown for fall.
ReplyDeleteI still like aqua... But with brown for fall, I think.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color combination right now is red and gray. I would love your scraps.

ReplyDeleteI made a small red and white quilt. It was so hard to find pure red/ whites. I still don't have enough red scraps.
ReplyDeletered and white is definitely on my bucket list...and farmers wife is too! dont have nearly enough variety to kill two birds with one stone, but thats okay, the more ufo's the better, right?

I was going through my stash the other day, trying to decide what fabrics to use for a new quilt, and discovered I had very little red, and it's a Christmas quilt, so I could really use the red and white fabrics. Thanks for the chance to win.
