Red and White Farmer's Wife Update

I've been farming my little heart out lately and
I have 11 new blocks to show you
(I know, get ready for lots of pictures).

But first, I wonder ~
Why do we feel it's necessary to show a picture of each block?

It seems a little weird.  If I make all 111 blocks then that's alot of Farmer's Wife pictures and posts!  Do any of you get tired of hearing about Farmer's Wife?  Do I dare ask? :)

I see lots of bloggers doing it (sharing photos of each block).
And the little 6" blocks are awfully cute.
And some of them are quite the feat that it's so tempting to shout to the world, "Look what I made!"
So I guess I'll follow the pack.
Hopefully you don't mind???

Have I mentioned the tools I've been loving for this project lately?

Getting my FW book spiral bound has been a lifesaver (to my book and my sanity!  It only cost about $3 to do at my local UPS store).

And my little swival mat is my MOST favorite-ist thing ever.  I really, really love it.  It was SO worth the $9 or so (with a 40% off coupon) that I spent at JoAnns and it saves me a ton of time!  I use to waste so much time repositioning all those dang pieces and templates!  I love it!

So...
Care to see my blocks?

#93 Swallow

#60 Noon & Light

#53 Jackknife

#1 Attic Windows

#39 Friendship

#108 Windmill (easiest block EVER!)

#94 Tall Pine Tree

#52 Hovering Hawks

#33 Farmer's Puzzle

#13 Buckwheat

#30 End of Day

They were all pretty simple this month so I was able to get all 9 blocks done (plus I had a couple other ones from last month that I hadn't showed you yet).  That never happens.  Usually I'm lucky to get two done!

So.  That's it for now!  Now I think it's time to take a little break from farming.  And I really mean little.  Or else I'll never finish!!!

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I love the red and white color theme. I wish I had thought of that when I started mine. It will be a stunning quilt when it is finished.

  3. I love seeing all of your blocks, so keep up the pictures!! I love the red/white look. Did you prewash your red fabrics so they don't bleed when you go to wash it? Just curious, would love to do a red/white color quilt:)

  4. They're beautiful Amber. I think your version is the only red and white version I've seen out there and I love it!

  5. Caroline,

I did pre-wash them this time. I usually don't pre-wash my fabrics but with the high contrast in this quilt, I decided I'd rather be safe than sorry. And, just in case I missed a few, I will probably use Detayne and/or Shout Color Catchers as well.

    Thanks for stopping by!

  24. I LOVE your FW blocks! I'm one of the people who take a pic of every block and post it on my blog. I worry (kind of) about people getting tired of seeing every block but I like having a record. I've actually started taking a pic of every block for every quilt I'm working on. I figure my followers will still come back because I always have a great giveaway going-heh heh. Anyway, I think you're doing an AWESOME job and your blocks are beautiful!

    Cheery wave!

  27. I don't think I will ever get tired of seeing the variety of blocks from The Farmer's Wife. Color combinations, some with very modern fabric, some made with scraps they are all wonderful. Oh and yeah you have the right to brag some of these six inch blocks have 50+ pieces in them so when you have completed one and it is totally awesome you deserve to brag!

  29. I love each and every one of them and so glad you showed each one and then them all together. The way you have used all shades of red looks so good and makes the two color quilt more interesting.
Thanks for sharing about getting a book spiral bound at UPS. I didn't know that. Also, the little swivel mat is a must on my list. I had a larger one once...wonder what happened to that?
