Blogs - a format for everything.

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Wow. I'm kind of blown away right now. I was just stealing a few minutes to check a couple of my creative inspiration blogs and as soon as one of them opened up I got to read a nice little quote that used not one but two pretty bad cuss words. I know I'm pretty conservative. And I know I'm not perfect, but these were words that I've never been a fan of. I don't usually surround myself with that kind of language. It was just surprising to have it thrown in my face by someone's blog that is the format for mostly crafty projects and so forth. I know a lot of people aren't offended by that kind of language and I also know that it's her blog and she's allowed to do and say whatever she wants on it, but I am definitely taking her off my blogroll. There were 6 comments. All of which were affirming how awesome the quote was. I wondered whether I should be the one and only person to stand up to such language. I got nervous. Wondered about future hate mail and comments, so I guess I'll refrain. But I am definitely taking her off my blogroll. She won't care and I guess I'm not meant for her artistic view, but that's just me.

So would you say something? Maybe others will leave a negative comment back and then I will wish that I stood with them. As for now, I'm not one to like a lot of controversy, but I really don't need to read the "F-word" while I'm looking for creative inspiration. Maybe I will say something that gets my point across without being too over the top. I was still debating when I started this post...

* Just so you know, right after I posted this I decided to not say anything. She's welcome to post whatever she wants and like one of my commentor's said, that's the beauty of blogs - I don't have to read it if I don't want to! I'm glad I didn't say anything - I don't want to cause any drama.

  1. Hi, Amber. I think you did the right thing. If you find the blog offensive, don't read it. That's the beauty of blogs! I think you might get a negative response if you post a comment, and who needs the drama?

  3. My kids always call me the swear police, because I can't stand it. There are always alternative words to use. We have one staff memeber that uses lots of swears during breaks and I find it very offensive. I would be dropping the blog too!

  7. Just to respond to Sequana...what does disliking the f-word have to do with being uptight? Just a question...

Ambs, I'm glad you got to express your opinion on your blog just like she got to on hers. If you want to leave a comment for her, fine. If not, fine too. I kind of think maybe she should know that not everyone appreciates the foul language, and maybe all those that don't appreciate it aren't commenting for the same reason you aren't. But at the same time, no need to cause drama. Whatever you do will be fine I'm sure. :)

P.S. It's 1 a.m. What am I doing reading your post???!!! Thanks for the fun night!

  8. So true, Keri, I don't think that this defines Amber as being too uptight...ugh....

I don't like it in my face, either, and I think you did just the right thing, as we all have to do, for ourselves, in each situation that makes us feel uncomfortable or offended.

  9. Ambs, I love ya. And I have been thinking about your molasses cookies, can't wait to get home and whip up a batch! I cuss, sometimes, and its just me and my personality. But not liking it surely doesn't make you uptight! Its the beauty of blogging I guess, but one would think about what their readers might enjoy reading and what they wouldn't...I know I do.

  10. Hi Amber, I'm reading a book called "Blogging for Bliss" and one of the key points in it is to keep your writing clean and enjoyable. Even if this lady's having a bad day or whatever, I agree with you, that it shouldn't be written in a blog with explicit language.
Sometimes I have "colourful" language but I don't pass it on in my blog.
I probably wouldn't say anything either but it would bother me just the same.
